All-important photo-ops

The Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Independent Charge), Shri Prakash Javadekar holding a press conference on post-Paris agreement, in New Delhi on April 19, 2016. The Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Ashok Lavasa and other dignitaries are also seen.

That optics are of major, if not primary, importance for the Narendra Modi government once again became evident at the press conference on climate change on Tuesday in New Delhi. As soon as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Environment, Forest & Climate Change Prakash Javadekar reached the dais, he picked up the booklet that his Ministry had brought up on the subject. Not a word was spoken by him or the three officials who came along with him. It was only after the photographers were through with their cameras that the Minister started speaking.

P.S.: The officials at the Press Information Bureau, however, don’t seem too keen on visuals. The picture that they posted on their official site, the picture that we have used, is small and is of low resolution.
