Showering Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with fulsome praise in Varanasi for improving infrastructure and medical facilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated developmental projects worth Rs 1,500 crore.
The Prime Minister was addressing an event at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at the inauguration of a 100-bed maternal and child health (MCH) wing at the university’s Institute of Medical Sciences. “The state of UP has seen times when brain fog and encephalitis were common diseases. Heath facilities were ignored. Moreover, Covid-19 has been one of the biggest challenges this world has ever faced. In such times, UP’s fight against Covid-19 is commendable. I thank all the health workers of UP and Kashi.”
Today UP is witnessing unprecedented improvement in medical infrastructure, be it village health centres, medical colleges, or AIIMS, Modi said. “Till four years ago, where there used to be a dozen medical colleges in UP, now their number has increased almost four times. Many medical colleges are in their different stages of construction. At present, the work of setting up about 550 oxygen plants in UP is also going on at a brisk pace. Today 14 oxygen plants were also inaugurated here in Banaras itself.”
“Kashi is becoming a large medical hub for Purvanchal. Today facilities are being made available in Kashi for diseases for which the treatment had to be done in Delhi or Mumbai earlier,” he added.
Varanasi is Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
The PM also inaugurated the International Cooperation and Convention Centre-Rudraksha, which has been built with Japanese assistance. It’s a double-storeyed building. Built in 2.87 hectares of land, it can reportedly seat capacity of 1,200 people.
Before Modi’s speech, Adityanath addressed the gathering, saying that under PM Modi, Kashi has “made a new identity in the country and the world.”
