Showing confidence in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Bharatiya Janata Party has said he would be the its candidate for the post in the Assembly election next year.
BJP national general secretary and in-charge of the party’s Rajasthan and Karnataka units Arun Singh told India Today yesterday, “There is no question of replacing Yogi Adityanath. He is and will remain our chief ministerial face in UP.’
Singh’s statement comes against the backdrop of speculation that the saffron party may not project Yogi as its chief ministerial candidate in the state poll.
The party’s new UP vice-president A.K. Sharma, wrote in a letter to UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh on Monday, “In the 2022 UP polls to be held under your and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s stewardship, the BJP would win even more seats than before.
Sharma, a retired IAS officer reportedly close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was expected to get a major responsibility in the state.
