Top 50 defaulters owe Rs 1.21 lakh crore to state-run banks

The top 50 defaulters owe Rs 1.21 lakh crore to public sector banks (PSBs) as on December 2015.
Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the number of willful defaulters of PSBs increased from 5,554 to 7,686 in three years to December 2015. The money they owed more than doubled from Rs 27,749 crore to Rs 66,190 crore in the meantime.
In another reply on outstanding loans of Rs 500 crore and above, the Minister said that there were 1,365 such at the end of December 2015.
