Crucifixion in this day and age? Well, if reports are anything to go by, Tom Uzhunnalil, an Indian priest believed to have been kidnapped by the IS, will be crucified on Good Friday. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
IS fighters had forcibly taken Uzhunnalil from a retirement home in Yemen on 4 March—an attack in which 16 people, including four nuns, were shot. The home in Aden is run by missionaries.
According to a report in The Independent of UK, “Father Uzhannalil has not been heard from since, but the Franciscan Sisters of Siessen posted a message on their Facebook page on Sunday claiming they had been informed of his torture, and said they believed he will be crucified on Good Friday.”
Father Uzhunnalil earlier was associated with Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, Bangalore. A member of Salesian Sisters told the International Business Times India: “There is no information about the whereabouts of Father Tom. We are only praying for him.”
It may recalled that Islamist groups, the ISIS in particular, have been persecuting, torturing, and exterminating Christians in the Middle East for quite some time.
