Donald Trump has become the favorite hate object of liberals all over the world. From those Parliamentarians in the UK who want a ban on his entry into their country to Arnab Goswami in India, everybody is incensed by the Republican presidential frontrunner’s views on Muslims. Typically, his views, as those of most Rightists on any issue, are trashed rather than examined and then criticized. So, it is time we scrutinized what Trump says about Muslims.
On December 7, he called for a total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States. Quoting Pew Research, his website, wwwdonaldtrump.com, said that “there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.” It also cited other sources to claim “25 per cent of those polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global jihad” and 51 per cent of those polled, “agreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah.”
This led Trump to state: “Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life. If I win the election for President, we are going to Make America Great Again.”
It is obvious that Trump regards Shariat and the ecosystem it nurtures with horror. In fact, those who cherish human rights and individual liberty will be certainly horrified by the weltanschauung that is predicated upon Islamism. The group, unfortunately, does not include most intellectuals. Feminists, for instance, prefer to turn a blind eye to the atrocities on women by Islamists. Feminist Naomi Wolf wrote on her Facebook page in August 2014, “So much about ISIS seems hyped/spun.”
More recently, over 500 women were molested on New Year’s Eve in Cologne, Germany, by asylum-seekers, most of them Muslims. The incident was a rude wake-up call to the Muslim-appeasing politicians and their intellectual supporters in Europe. And what did the champions of women do? German feminists Stefanie Lohaus and Anne Wizorek said, “Germany’s rape culture is deeply rooted in our collective psyche”; it was “not imported.” According to them, the only thing different this time was “that the men weren’t white.”
Never was the desire to deny the reality stronger. It is not only feminists but also a large and influential section of the intellectual class that is in the denial mode; they remain comfortably ensconced in their make-believe world which is governed by the dogmas of political correctness and multiculturalism. Unfortunately, intellectuals’ fantasyland ends up impacting the real world. Much in the likeness of the 20th century Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges’ short story, Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, the truths of fantasyland become sores in the real world, causing widespread afflictions. So, anybody questioning the policy of letting in Muslim migrants from the Middle East is calumniated as a racist, xenophobe, Islamophobe, etc.
Why don’t Muslim countries in the region take in their coreligionists driven out by the barbaric Islamic State? No answers. Why do Muslims throng to European and North American countries which are supposedly plagued with Islamophobia and racism? No answers. And why is it only Muslims who suffer from xenophobia and racism? After all, there are also Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist migrants in Western countries; there is seldom, if ever, any news of tensions between, say, Hindus and native Europeans.
Trump’s crime is his defiance to the PC, multiculti inquisition; he doesn’t buy the lies peddled by Left-liberals; he doesn’t wallow in the misleading utterances like ‘Islam is the religion of peace’ and ‘those involved in terrorist activities are besmirching Islam.’ Trump speaks the truth, and that is a big crime, for in the age of mendacity, truth becomes a pariah.
